It is officially summer here in Niagara Falls and with that comes many exciting events, attractions, and experiences that visitors have been waiting to enjoy all year. Planning and budgeting for a vacation can be hard when there are varying costs attached to your excursions so here is a list of activities to enjoy in Niagara that are free!
Start the day with a serene stroll through the Botanical Gardens. Enjoy a peaceful morning coffee in this beautiful park full of quaint trails, lush greens, and colourful flowers. Explore the park’s vibrant landscape and find many naturally breathtaking backdrops for photos along the way. There is a reason the gardens are a must-go place for weddings and other special occasion photos for local Niagara residents.
Just a short walk away, you can enjoy the scenic pathway along the Niagara Gorge where you can walk or bike on the wide paved path beside the escarpment or take the more challenging route and hike down to the Niagara Whirlpool. Venture down the path passed rock walls, tall trees, and a small stream leading you to the river where you’ll feel the power of the Niagara Rapids and enjoy the scenery of the vast Niagara Whirlpool.
After all the hard work, it is time for a much-deserved rest -and lunch! Picnic at Dufferin Islands, just down the river passed the Horseshoe Falls. You’ll find a secluded area with a large pond full of geese and ducks, many picnic tables and even more nature to explore. Many footbridges and pathways connect small islands and bring guests through the natural trails, along the flowing streams and small waterfalls.
Unarguably the best free event in Niagara is the nightly Fireworks over Niagara Falls. Every night this summer at 10pm visitors can enjoy the fireworks from anywhere along the parkway. The summer fireworks series has drawn visitors from around the world each summer season to witness one-of-a-kind display further showcased by the stunning nightly illumination of Niagara Falls. The perfect end to the night.
In addition to the activities mentioned above, there are multiple spots along the Niagara Parkway from Niagara-on-the-Lake all the way to Chippawa where visitors can park for free and enjoy the pristine green space. Set up your perfect spot in the grass to read a book, picnic with friends or play a game of catch with family.
Not wanting to driving home after your fun filled day? With all the savings from your free day of summer fun, you can splurge on a Fallsview Suite and get the ultimate view of Niagara Falls. The perfect resting spot after a day of exploring is sitting by the window of your suite and enjoying the stunning view.
